Wind in Iowa

I am so glad it isn't snowing with this wind or it would be a blizzard. WE had two trees cut down last year so we don't have as many leaves but the wind blew from the west and blew all the neighbors leaves into our yard. We have some really big piles of leaves around the house and driveway. Maybe if we wait long enough the wind will blow from the East and blow it out of here. Some relatives who left here this noon for Pecatonica IL drove in snow the last 30 miles. It is 37 now and got to 45 today and might get to 41 tomorrow. I think maybe I should change the date I sent in to the paper for the first snow contest after Nov. 1. It might come earlier than I put down.
I enjoy reading the blog but wish more people would write. We put storm windows on yesterday while it was nice. Might have been the last nice day we could do that.
In about 6 weeks we should be in Texas. We usually leave sometime after the first week of Dec. If we get lots of snow it might be sooner. We always have one snow or ice storm before we get out of here.
I go back to Wolfe clinic friday and see how my glaucoma is doing. Hopefully okay with one drop a day. I need to be down there to go to Dentist in Mexico but am going to have to get one tooth done before we go. If I could pay someone to go to the dentist for me I would. My least favorite place.

Sunday Morning - 10/26/08

Good Morning from Weslaco. At 9:30 a.m. the sun is shining. The temp is 76.1 degrees, the wind is out of the south at 6 mph. All is well in paradise.

Cookout Saturday, Too!

Today was also the final cookout of the summer season. Lots of folks showed up...about double our usual summertime count. Took twice as many grills, too. Serving up the desserts...loading and unloading the ovens full of baking potatoes and garlic bread...friends, fun, and food...that's what its all about at Leisure World.

Patio Sale Day

Traffic was moving in the park early this morning as the eager buyers were checking out the offerings at the various patios in Leisure World. I chose to go and cast my ballot for the upcoming election early (By early voting in Texas you can avoid a lot of the lines and crowds). As a result, I didn't get around to visit the various patios until most of the early frenzied buying was over. Everyone reported good sales and were happy with their patio sales results. Here are a few of the "LATE" photos.

Of course it isn't all about selling those "extras" and white elephants...its also a time for neighbors to get together.

Big John

Sorry about the part post. Last night we had the last Eat-Out of the season at Big John's. We had around thirty in attendance and I think everyone had a great time. Unfortunately, no one had a camera.

Association Meeting October 2008

LWAA President Jewett Powers announced this morning that this would be the final business meeting at which she would preside. She has now completed two 7 month terms as "Summer President" of the Association.

She thanked everyone for their cooperation and the help they have been during the Summer of 2008, particularly singling out Gary Bringham, Vice President, for all his work in making coffee, fire making for the cookouts, etc....but most especially for his taking over chairing the board meetings and park meetings during the time she was travelling this summer. She also singled out Joyce Miller for the excellent job she did as Activities Director this summer. Joyce had chairpersons lined up very soon after accepting the job of Activity Director for the summer...and did a superb job of setting up the park eat-outs for the summer. While Jewett had promised her a jewel in her heavenly crown for the fine work, Joyce had indicated she'd prefer her crown on earth....thus at this morning's meeting she was presented with her crown! Wear it well, Joyce.

Other news of note at the meeting was when Shirley Rollins, Leisure World Manager, advised that the gate code would be changing tomorrow, October 15.

Please note that if you need to have the code before arriving at the park, call the office at 956-968-8412. If you have one of the remote openers (clickers), it will continue to work just fine. No changes necessary for your remotes.

Flea Market Breakfast

As the sun sinks slowly in the west, we bid a fond farewell to the summer's Saturday morning galas, with the Grandbaby of the Flea Market breakfasts showing a great turnout. Unfortunately, with the Flea Market activities increasing for the winter, and with the increasing numbers of Leisure World extended family members (we are almost as prolific as the DeJoode family), we have outgrown our monthly breakfast outing. Watch for the return next spring when the Flea Market breakfast returns. In the meantime, here are a few snaps from this morning (courtesy of Scott using Thelma Watkins' camera.)

Annual Sisters Get Together

Carolyn Richeson hosted another memorable annual Sisters Get Together on October 4, 2008. She has hosted these get togethers since 1985. Those attended were: Back row left to right: Phyllis(DeJoode) Connett, Barb(DeJoode)McGrean, Bev(DeJoode)Pearson, Martha DeJoode. Front row left to right. Jean DeJoode, Trudy(DeJoode)Hauserman and Carolyn(DeJoode)Richeson.
We gathered at Carolyn's home and then all went together to an old farm house that had been remodeled in the Mitcheville, Ia. area where we had dinner resverations and a tour of the home. We then went shopping in the afternoon and back to Carolyn's home for some sister fellowship and making new memories. Carolyn had a chili supper which our brother, Willie DeJoode and Carolyn's husband, Larry joined us.
When Carolyn started this get together back in 1985, we had eight of us sisters and four sister in laws along with our lovely mother. We now have five sisters and three sister in laws that get together. One sister in law, Penny DeJoode was unable to attend due to recovering from a stroke. All had a wonderful time and made a few more memories for our family.
Carolyn, Phyllis and myself(Trudy) will soon be joining our extended family in Leisure World. See you soon!!
