Charlie Green
Charlie Green is in the hospital. He had surgery a few days ago. He had a section removed from his small intestine. He seems to be doing very well and looking forward to returning to his home maybe sometime this week. If you would like to send him a card, I am sure he would love to hear from his Leisure World Friends. You can send them to his Topeka, Ks. address. Thank You

Robert Lane
We recieved word today of the death of Bob Lane's sister. I don't have any information on her age or name but we all know Bob and Marlene. Their address is 2098 CR 2700 Caney, KS. 67333. I'm sure they would love to hear from their friends.
Ralph Swearns
Ralph passed away Saturday April 20, 2011. He had been in the hospital both in Weslaco and finally in McAllen. Towards the last all they could do was try to keep the pain under control. Vivian made the trip daily some times more than once and many times she stayed with him thru the night. Our prayers and thoughts are with her and the family at this difficult time. Cards may be sent to her at 172 Jefferson St. Crossville, TN. 38572.

Easter Dinner at Leisure World
A nice crowd of residents, family and other visitors, gathered at the Recreation Hall for a ham dinner/potluck at 1:00 pm this Easter Sunday.
The mood was happy and light for all in attendance. The kitchen renovation lended itself to a new convesation friendly arrangement for the tables.
Lucy Ruonavaara enjoyed the bounty on the potluck table. Notice the practiced skill with multiple plates!
At the corner table you could tell that Jim Edwards and Mel Herrmann were both fully engrossed with their heaped plates.
And post prandial smiles were displayed (along with well rounded profiles) by those trenchermen who were so hard at it in an earlier photo.
Thelma Watkins gave our special guest Thea Soland a big hug.
T
A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Shirley and Scott Marriner for the organization and preparation of the Holiday gathering.

Black Friday
WHAT IS BLACK FRIDAY??? For one Leisure World Resident, today (Friday, April 15th) was considered Black Friday. WHY?? Because she turned 70 - my goodness...

Is that Mary Gainer? This picture was taken when Mary helped nurse her mother while sick. Mary said - I wonder how it feels having to use a walker?
With dark glasses, all black clothes and a black tie,
She sure doesn't look 70, that's no lie.
As she gathered with friends that made her happy and glad,
She realized 70 really wasn't that bad.
One young chick still left in the park,
And she thought the day would be so dark.
Stan Gainer and Mary (dressed all in black) met at Lin's in Weslaco for a nice noon meal with friends there to help her celebrate her 70th birthday. Mary received many cards (some personal and unique) from her friends. After lunch she enjoyed ice cream and a chocolate cake with black roses. As Mary left she realized, turning 70 wasn't really that bad. After all, she was the youngest in the crowd.
Mary and Stan Gainer
Bob Clark was sure he had found a single 29 year old chick. Sorry Bob, she is already taken.
Styrl and Connie Little
Stan and Sandy Quinn
Lloyd Walker and Mary Casey
Phyllis and Dick Connett
And the friends from Leisure World wishing Mary a Happy Birthday.
HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY MARY.

Cookout
Several Winter Texan's still here at Leisure World, therefore another great crowd turned out for the April 9th Cookout. Pat Lafoe worked very hard at home preparing the potatoes and bread for the hungry crowd. Thanks Pat. Also thanks to all those who volunteered to bring the delicious cakes and pies and those who prepared the grills. Another fun evening.

Gospel Jam
What a pleasant surprise for us on Sunday, March 20 when the last Gospel Jam for the season was held in the Rec Hall.. Last count for the jam was 104 in attendance with a few others coming in later. Many musicians and jammers around the Valley have supported Stan's efforts to bring gospel music to the residents of Leisure World. We would like to extend a gracious Thank You to everyone who has helped make this possible. My apologies for not adding pictures with this posting. My computer skills are limited and it seems that with each posting I have difficulty adding pictures. This time I am unable to add pictures and type the message near the pictures. Hopefully by next season I will get a new inservice from Dave Slater to accomplish this task. We look forward to seeing you next season.

Wednesday Night Movie
This Wednesday we kick off the summer movie nights at Leisure World. The curtain goes up each Wednesday at 7:00 pm. If the power is back on there will probably be coffee and microwave popcorn available. We ask that you make a contribution to the cost of those consumables if you partake. This week's movie is Anchorman, The Legend of Ron Burgundy. A comedy for adults starring Will Ferrell.
