Neighborhood Watch

While watching TV and drinking iced tea I heard a loud boom. Went to the kitchen window and there was a white pick up truck on Virgil's driveway. The driver got out of the truck and looked around. My dectective juices started flowing. I went out there and as I got there Alex and Tina came out.
The only damage was to the skirting, none to the trailer. More damage was to the tailgate of the pick up. The driver went to notify Shirley and the police came and made a report.
The gentleman was in the park doing legal work for the government. Setting traps to count or justify or whatever that some kind of bugs are here. Not a very good discription but he was doing goverment work .
All is well in Leisure World. Big Brother (or Sister) is watching.

Good News From Springfield
We had a great, long chat with Karen Myers last evening and she asked us to report that she is doing just wonderful. She had her back surgery on May 4th in Springfield and became an immediate new person, just like the doctor said she would.
The immediate relief has put a lot of smile and enthusiasm into her voice. She is already walking a mile to a mile and a quarter every day. While Mike still has to do all the chores around the house, Karen can enjoy the respite. She does expect the doctor to add additional exercise into her recovery regimen very soon.
If you'd like to giver her a call Karen's personal cell phone is 417.224.2237. The house phone in Springfield is 417. 887.7286. We sure she would enjoy hearing from you.

More pictures of Manitoba
I will try to give you another picture - my first time to use the blog - obviously still learning. For some reason I can't seem to get the others to upload try again another time.
High water in Manitoba
Brandon, Manitoba is having some serious flooding and so far the dikes are holding. The river is not supposed to crest until next Thursday or so. We were in the campground in Souris and the water from Plum Creek is rising, so we had to move. I am attaching some photos. The one with the sandbags is from Brandon - supposedly there is 7 1/2 feet of water behind it. It is at an intersection and across the street from a large shopping area including WalMart - all the stores are closed.

A note from Cyrilla
Here is a note from Cyrilla Collard, complete with her new address.
"Dear Family and Friends,
I have recently moved to St. Ann's Residence on 3rd St. I am enjoying it very much. They are very friendly and helpful. Caroline Caywood also moved here on April 1. We are on the same floor a couple of doors apart. This has made my move much easier. I hope you will drop in when you are downtown or drop a line.
I had a very eventful winter in Texas. On January 15, I turned in our hall and broke my upper leg just below the ball. I had to have a total hip replacement. I spent 7 weeks in the hospital and rehab before returning to the trailer. I am doing well and walking with a cane. I had a great PT, Bobby, and am trying to keep up his schedule of exercises. St. Ann's offers many programs to help with my PT and OT. Hope to see you soon now that I am downtown.
Love,
Cyrilla

Mother's Day
Starting at 2:30 pm all of the attendees were entertained by the guitars and voices of Stan and Mary Gainer
.
Mary treated us to the song she had written in memory of her Mother and Father, "Don't Send Me Roses".
The cake and ice cream were prepared and served by Mel Herrmann, Gary Bringham and Jim Edwards.
It was a very relaxing, entertaining, and enjoyable afternoon, as you can tell from the faces of some of those attending.

The Kitchen
Work is progressing on the kitchen. With few hands available the progress is slow. The morning coffee gathering discusses the day's work schedule (and a lot of other things about the park, the world, and those who are not at the table!)
While the coffee "notch" is awaiting it's final work...painting, countertop and cabinets...it is in operation so the workers can be fueled!
Seriously, the workers are doing the finish work carefully and completely. They view their handiwork with pride...quality takes precedence over hurry.
With most doors in place and the wall and serving areas finished, it won't be long until the final inspection and the kitchen will become operational. In the meantime, potatoes are baked in home ovens, as is garlic bread, holiday ham, etc. Our usual summer "eating" progresses apace. Fran Foxhoven took pictures at the Eat Out last night at Great China...and I'm encouraging her to post them!

News from the North
I have received a couple of items by email and telephone that deserve sharing on the blog.
Jack Fisher emailed "I had a request for socks like I have that are white with Leisure World in blue on the top. I had them done here in Britt and I have checked with her and she will do them for $9.95 each for 1-6 pair, and $8.95 each for over six pair. I have 5 pair requested by people and Wally thought if you put this on the blog maybe more people would want a pair. I don't have a picture of them and can't send one because I left my socks in Weslaco. If there is any interest they could email me at jaddfisher@hotmail.com.
Kay Monroe called to share the news that Frances and Alvin Johnson will be celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary on May 5th. If you would like to send a card of congratulations to Al and Frances, their northern address is: 25175 Indian Ridge Road, Sterling, IL 61081.

Rose Mary Logsdon
We were shocked to learn of the sudden death of Rose Mary Logsdon. She had a couple of small strokes on the way to MN. But after they got there she was put in the hospital and passed away soon after. She had sold her home here to Terry and Jeff Caywood and was looking forward to living with her son Charles. Charles spent the winter here with Rose Mary. He was eager to have her live with him. She was married to Charles Oksanen and they lived here for many years. She than married Ralph Logsdon and they bought the home at 717 Palm Circle. Ralph passed away a few years ago. Rose Mary kept busy with cards and crafts, she was active in Red Hats. Cards can be sent to her son at 3277 Arcade St. S. Vadnais Hgts. MN. 55127 She will be missed by all her many friends here in Leisure World.
